While we’re pretty huge fans of all our new brunch cocktails, there’s one that warms our hearts a little extra. Leveraging the bold, sweet-smokey flavors of Heritage Distilling Company’s (HDC) bacon vodka, we think we’ve hit on something pretty special with our Bacon Mary.
The Bacon Mary starts with Talking Cedar’s very own bloody mary mix. This special blend of tomato juice, V8, Worcestershire, horseradish, Cajun seasoning, celery salt and garlic salt was developed by our retail manager, Nicole. A self-proclaimed Bloody Mary fanatic, Nicole was eager to step up to the plate, or the bar as it were, and work with Stephen Pavletich, our restaurant general manager and the primary developer of our craft cocktail program.
Once a batch of mix is prepped, we’re ready to start pouring. When you order a Bacon Mary, we start by rimming a pint glass with bacon dust. Yes, friends, bacon dust! We fry a few pounds of Daily’s bacon until it’s extra crispy then run it through an industrial food processor with sea salt until it’s as fine as can be. Next we place a slice of cooked bacon down the side of the glass and fill it with ice. Then comes a healthy pour of HDC bacon vodka, followed by our house bloody mary mix. We keep the garnish simple (two green olives and a wedge of jalapeno) because the focus here is, of course, the bacon.
“We wanted to create a bloody mary that wasn’t a novelty, but that was unique,” Stephen explains. “HDC’s bacon vodka blended with our house mix makes for a hickory maple flavor that pairs well with any of our savory brunch options.” On our inaugural brunch weekend in mid-October, there was a point where we had six tables of guests and all six tables had a Bacon Mary on them. If you are a bacon lover, a bloody mary lover, or just need a little hair of the dog, this drink is worth a special trip to Grand Mound!
Our new breakfast menu is served from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. We go full brunch at 11:00 a.m., when our complete lunch menu kicks into gear for anyone who might want an early burger with their Bacon Mary!
